Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has his eye on a little piece of history.
Fry admits he would love to see Posh surpass the best-ever finish in their Football League history – 10th in the old Division One back in their first season at this level in 1992/93.
And that looks a real possibility after a thrilling return to Championship football. Posh currently sit 11th in the standings after the opening third of the season.
Fry said: “It would be wonderful if we could beat the achievement of Lil Fuccillo’s team that finished 10th all those years ago.
“Doing that would be just reward for a brilliant chairman in Darragh MacAnthony, a great manager in Darren Ferguson and a terrific bunch of players and staff. In fact it would be fabulous for everyone connected with the club.

“I can only see us improving individually and collectively and I really hope we can do it, but having said that I still maintain that finishing fourth from bottom would go down as a miraculous success.
“We’re punching well above our weight just by being here and hopefully we’ll win the fight. This is such a tough league full of teams that have played at the highest level, but I don’t think anyone could argue that we don’t deserve a few more points already.
“The fact that we are doing well by developing young players, rather than going out and signing those that are the finished article, makes it even more satisfying.
“The club could not be in better hands than those of Darragh – or God as I call him – and Darren.”
And Fry admits the atmosphere inside London Road is happier than he has ever known it since arriving all the way back in 1996.
Fry added: “It is a wonderful place to work. Everyone comes in with a smile on their face and loves being around the club.
“It is without a doubt the happiest atmosphere I’ve known in my 15 years here. It’s such a far cry from the early days that were a complete and utter nightmare for me.
“Sometimes I go and have a sit down in the dugout and pinch myself. It’s unbelievable how far we have come on and off the pitch.”
FRY is due to hold further contract talks with the agent of Joe Lewis this week.
He is ‘very hopeful’ that the goalkeeper can be persuaded to sign a new deal at London Road.
POSH have been handed a home tie against Blackpool in the third round of the FA Youth Cup.
The date for the fixture is still to be arranged.
